Grant's home studio is set up in a room 3mtr x 3.5mtr. Upgraded 2013 – Painted, carpeted, frame for curtains and overhead acoustic panels installed and a neat hole in the wall for cabling to the Mac Computer and Digidesign 192 I/O in the second room. Now it is a nice silent good feeling room with a bit of colour added to the curtains.

The front wall curtains are heavy cotton with some thin cotton for colour. The sidewalls are Poly/Cotton with some thin cotton curtains for added colour. The rear wall has a bookshelf filled with stuff that helps with diffusion and pink cotton curtains on each side for colour. The carpet on the wooden floor is wool + a mat of the same carpet for the roller office chair. The ceiling has 2 suspended angled home-made acoustic panels on adjustable rails.

The recording system has been replaced with a Power Mac G5 Duo 2.0GHz computer, Digidesign HD3 Cards and Protools HD8.01cs DAW. A second SATA HDD installed and Partitioned for Protools Audio Sessions.

Acoustic Treatment has been considered but as Grant has been UN-employed and now a Casual at Mitre10 Retail Whyalla, it is not a cost he can afford, even if Grant builds his own side panels and corner bass traps. It is cheaper to find other solutions when mixing and mastering the music. Also the Monitors take up the space needed for bass traps. The walls are hollow and are supposed to help with bass trapping.

The frequency scan shows a 12db Gain in the 30 – 65Hz area and a 12dB dip in the 80Hz Area, which makes it difficult to mix kick and bass. (Recently discovered from 'Produce Like A Pro™' YouTube Channel that mounting speakers on stands cause this effect and needs to be rectified with 2 subwoofers in the Front Room Corners with a 120Hz crossover set). The rest is ± 3-6dB against the reference frequencies. Reference tracks and comparing in the bass hot spot behind the sweet spot (Rear) helps get the bass right as well as listening from other rooms in the house.

Grant has added the Creative Satellite speakers and sub for getting the instrument clarity EQ right when mastering as the Mackies' clarity is not transferring to standard Hi-Fi speakers. This change in practice has saved an immense amount of time in equalising instruments in the mix for accurate results.
